The cunning, baffling & powerful book of Joel is a real and raw journey through his footsteps. What makes this book so powerful, is the first hand account of the life of an addict who is also struggling to with their mental health.
This story is narrated by Ron Garden, who an amazing job of pulling you into the world of Joel journey.

A captivating and true story of the ups and downs, joys and sorrows that one man has experienced in the past four decades. A member of a violent street gang and struggling to know myself, substance abuse became the great coping mechanism. Visited by spirits that tormented my days and nights, I faced each day not knowing if I would see the next. This book will take you on a miraculous journey that is a testament to God’s healing power and is an advocate to those who seem to have lost their way in life. You can make it. It is with great transparency that I share this story with you knowing God kept me alive to do just that.
Joel Carroll

I have had the privilege of hoping Joel at campfire on two different occasions.
We first met him back on episode 64 Cunning, baffling, and powerful. During this conversation Joel shared with us, the life and times behind his book, and what inspired him to write it.
Then on episode 89 on giving yourself I had the opportunity to reconnect with Joel. During our time together this way around we got to explore the idea of redemption. Our conversation revolves around how we both found redemption in the act of giving ourselves back to children we had lost touch with. We discovered that it wasn’t just act of returning that meant so much. It was the work we invested in ourselves, even with the setbacks and obstacles we faced along the way. Is what gave us redemption in our own eyes, but more importantly gave the child a better version of what they had been missing.
Each one of my conversations with Joel has served to be a reminder of how the wisdom lies within the stories we are navigating. Even when it doesn’t feel that way in the moment.
